Emily

Nanny was the sweetest most-thoughtful person I am so lucky to be her granddaughter! She made the best pancakes, especially when, by request, she added chocolate chips in the shape of a smiley face. We liked playing mini golf, dyeing Easter eggs, playing rummy, playing piano duets, writing letters to each other, eating crab cakes, and baking cookies together. When she'd come to visit I'd get so excited to see her light blue Buick Riviera parked in the driveway when I got home from school. Her's was the first phone number I memorized and before we'd hang up one said "kiss, kiss, hug, hug" and the other replied "hug, hug, kiss, kiss." She always gave the best hugs and listened so well often saying things like "Is that right?" and "C'mon now you can do it!" and "Oh, I love you too, dear." For all her sweetness she also had such strength. Starting college in the 1930s when few women went, getting married just before the love of her life shipped out to serve in the Navy before WWII, and graciously hosting holiday and birthday dinners in her home. Thank you for sharing your love and life with us and passing your kindness on to all of us! Love you, Nanny! XXOO
