Obituary for Boyd E. Smith

Boyd E. Smith, age 87, of Waynesboro, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2018, at Leland House of Waynesboro. Born July 6, 1930, in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Clyde and Modena Shaffer Smith. He was married for 53 years to the late Madonna F. (Mickey) Smith, who preceded him in death on October 29, 2007.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Boyd served his country honorably during the Korean Conflict. Retired from both Hempt Brothers in Camp Hill and Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, he had also worked many years ago for the former E.D. Plummer & Sons of Chambersburg. He was a member of the Burt J. Asper American Legion Post 46 and George Washington Lodge #143 F&AM, both in Chambersburg, and his interests included hunting, leather work, travelling to the western states, and gun-collecting.

Surviving is his son, Mike K. Smith (Cindy Myers) of Fayetteville, PA, 2 grandchildren, Lacey Schoenberger of Tacoma, WA and Kane Leedy of Palm Dale, CA; two sisters, Maxine Rotz and Catherine Clark, both of Chambersburg; and a brother, Bill Smith, now living in Kansas.

Private burial graveside services will be held at Parklawns Memorial Gardens, where members of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard will conduct military graveside honors. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Grane Hospice, 1200 Camp Hill Bypass, Suite 205 Camp Hill, PA 17011. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg. Condolences may be expressed at geiselfuneralhome.com
