Obituary for W. Frank Cramer

W. Frank Cramer, 86, of Chambersburg, passed away Saturday, September 29, at Menno Haven. Born on October 3, 1931 in Chambersburg, he was the son of Isabelle Cramer Marrella.

Frank was a 1950 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School, and then served in the U.S. Army through the Korean Conflict. While in the service, he played football for teams in the Army and he continued with the Chambersburg Cardinals after he returned home. A retired sheet metal contractor, he was the owner and operator of the former W. Frank Cramer Sheet Metal in Chambersburg for 30 years, and then worked for Geisel Funeral Home for many years into retirement. He was a member and Past Master of the George Washington Lodge #143 F&AM, and a former member of the Franklin Fire Company. Other memberships included the Chambersburg Club, Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, Burt J. Asper American Legion Post 46, Hume McNeil Byers AmVets Post 224 and the Marine Corps League. His interests included riding motorcycles, traveling, hunting, fishing, playing tennis, and taking ski trips with friends. He was also a longtime member of the Chambersburg YMCA, where he and Jean continued to work out and stay active well into their 80’s.

He is survived by his wife, Jean L. Diehl Cramer, whom he married on April 12, 1953; one daughter, Gina Goode of Columbus, OH; one granddaughter, Ashley Meredith (husband Steve) and two great grandchildren, Connor and Ethan Meredith, all of Columbus. He was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Ann Stagmire.

Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday, October 3rd, in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road Chambersburg, with viewing one hour prior. Chaplain Robert Keener and Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Mausoleum entombment will follow at Norland Cemetery, where members of VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard will conduct military graveside honors. The family will also receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, with Masonic Services by G.W. Lodge 143 F&AM concluding the viewing at 8 pm.
