Agnes Gilreath

August 6, 1941 — July 5, 2023

On July 5, 2023, a Ketchum legacy based in Baltimore, MD was forever changed with the passing of Agnes Lillian (Lil) Gilreath of Chambersburg, PA in the company of loved ones and a community exemplifying loving kindness.

Lil was a connector of people, a light in someone’s day who found peace in the settling of life. She was anchored by a 38-year marriage to the late Sgt. Frank Alvin Gilreath and was a testament of what sharing grace, humility, and love meant to her surviving daughters, Lisa Gilreath Selser and Melissa Gilreath Lehman and granddaughters, Henna Grae Selser and Ciara Nicole Lehman.

Her journey took her from the Baltimore Gas and Electric Company where she took pride as a trainer to the arms of a police officer who would provide for her to the very end. She was more than the homemaker identity placed on her death certificate. Lil was a force of nature who acknowledged the stings of life, but never let them harden her.

Lil made mistakes, great ones, that provided many laughs and pleasant memories. She once called a Pizza Hut asking for two medium pepperoni pizzas for lovers instead of two medium pepperoni lover’s pizzas. Her husband was mortified. Or the time she bought an alarm clock and thought it was broken because she didn’t realize the “12:00” was a sticker. Perfect was not an end goal nor something she required of other people.

In a world so fast to progress, she saw the divine in the humbled pause of the day or taking the time to connect with a stranger. She saw the beauty in the mundane, acknowledged the struggle, and yet pushed through to realize that whatever was happening was meant to.

In death, this perspective on life and willingness to support others was paid back in the selfless and quick action of off duty first responders that afforded additional hours on her life. This time allowed her family to say a proper goodbye while witnessing her fight to survive.

Her public viewing is set for July 13, 2023, at Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA from 1:30pm-2:30pm with a graveside service immediately following at 3:00pm at Norland Cemetery, 2295 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg, PA.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that we carry on this act of a service led life by supporting the Make-A-Wish foundation or a local first responder organization.
