Alan Robert Loessy, 71, of Chambersburg, passed away Tuesday morning, May 23, 2023 at his home following an extended illness. Born in Scranton as an identical twin on October 27, 1951, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard and parents, Lois and Harold Loessy. A 1969 graduate of Dunmore, PA High School, he graduated from the Career Academy of Broadcasting in Washington, DC before obtaining his first job as a broadcaster at WTRN, Tyrone, PA, the flagship station for Allegheny Mountain Radio Network.
Alan served the public in some capacity his entire life. In 1975, he was selected to be Congressman Bud Shuster's District Manager and made his home in Chambersburg since then. In 1989, he transferred to Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg serving as a Personnel Management Specialist and later as Letterkenny's Public Affairs Officer before retiring in 2008 with 33 years of federal service.
A member of Dunmor Presbyterian Church, Alan served on various volunteer committees and boards to include Vice President of the Board of Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter retiring after nearly 20 years of service following a successful community-driven shelter building relocation. He was an active member of Chapter 1063 National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), serving several terms as chapter Public Affairs Officer. He also served briefly on the board of PA Associated Press Broadcasters Assn., and Lincoln Highway Heritage Committee. His lifetime of service was noted in the CONGRESSIONAL RECORD by Congressman Bill Shuster who cited Alan's lifetime of public service and especially his work to promote and enhance Letterkenny Army Depot as a founding member of Opportunity ’05, a broad-based community effort to protect and promote the growth of Letterkenny Army Depot in the face of 2005’s Base Realignment and Closure vote.
He is survived by several cousins and his special niece, Karen Loessy Brown (husband Michael) and his grand-nephew Jake Patrick Brown.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 PM Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at Dunmore Cemetery.
