Albert Mumper

August 30, 1934 — July 18, 2015

Albert L. Mumper, 80, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born August 30, 1934 in Gettysburg, he was the son of the late Joseph and Hazel Bowling Mumper. Al was a member of the Gettysburg High School Class of 1952 and joined the US Army during his last year of high school. While in the Army, he completed the test for his GED and received his high school diploma. He served during the Korean Conflict with the US Army Seventh Division from 1953-1956. He retired in 1992 from Letterkenny Army Depot as a Transportation Technician after 33 years. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chambersburg where he served on the church council and was a member of several church committees. He was Cub Master of Cub Pack 128 and served as Chartered Organizational Representative for the troop and pack for more than thirty-three years. He was a life member of Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW and was a member of its Honor Guard for many years. He volunteered for many years with Operation Concern. His beloved wife, Lena Scott Mumper, whom he married January 12, 1963, preceded him in death on December 14, 2012.

Al is survived by three children, Joseph S. Mumper and wife Pam Snyder Mumper of Mercersburg, Mark E. Mumper of Chambersburg, and Crystal Yoder and husband Daryl of Chambersburg; five grandchildren, Rachel Mumper, Erin Mumper, Matthew Mumper and wife Mary Kate Martin Mumper, Bridget Snyder, and Samantha Mumper; two great-granddaughters, Jocelyn and Emma; a sister, Sandra Curfman of Chambersburg; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Monna Mumper and Jayne Hicken.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, July 21, 2015 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Jane Nicholson will officiate. Interment with military honors by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from Noon-1:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
