Alice Coble Foreman, age 99, of Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and formerly of Edwards Ave. in Chambersburg, passed away at 9:05 PM on Friday, June 27, 2014. Born May 2, 1915 in St. Thomas, she was a daughter of the late John D. and Annie (Brechbiel) Coble. She was the last of her immediate Coble family. Her husband, Lawrence R. Forman, preceded her in death on August 27, 1991.
Alice was a long time member of the Park Avenue United Methodist Church in Chambersburg. She was a homemaker and was employed by the J. Schoeneman Co. (Stanley Co.) for over 40 years. An accomplished seamstress, Alice sewed for her family and for many others in the community. For many years she made dresses for dolls for the Toy Mission. At Christmas time she would bake over 100 dozen cookies for banks and other establishments. Alice and her husband Lawrence sold corn and other vegetables from the fields and garden on Edwards Avenue. She was an avid reader and bowler for many years. She enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles, loved listening to classical music, watching game shows on TV and of course, playing Bingo. She was also a longtime member of the Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion Auxiliary.
Alice is survived by three children, Doris Eshelman, Alan Foreman (Jean), and Barbara Higgins (Daniel) all of Chambersburg; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Aside from her parents and husband, Alice is preceded in death by three sons, Larry, Richard and Donald Foreman; a grandson, Mark Eshelman; six sisters, Ethel Picking, Mae Senger, Leila Snyder, Rose Foreman, Edith Pope and Florence Shattuck; and three brothers, Merl, Francis, and John Coble, Jr.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. Rev. Suzanne Elliott will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels, 43 W.
