Alice V. Garner, age 92, of Chambersburg, left this earth for her Heavenly Home on Monday, December 31, 2012 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born July 20, 1920 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Russell and Cynthia (Detrich) Yeager.
Alice was a very giving and loving person all of her life. During her working years, she was employed at the Interwoven Stocking Mill, the Stanley Company, and Swift and Company, all in Chambersburg. She also cared for her mother after she had a stroke. Alice loved to plant flowers and a few vegetables even at the age of 90. She loved animals, especially her two cats. She was a loving mother and a much loved sister. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her two sons, their families, and her two sisters. Alice attended the Pentecostal Church in her younger years and was a 32 year breast cancer survivor.
Surviving are her two sons, Clarence Garner and Ronald Garner (wife Judy) both of Chambersburg; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two sisters, M. Louise Hawk (husband Dewey) and Blanche M. Stoner (widow of Clarence). Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Garner; and brother, Russell Yeager, Jr. who died in infancy.
Services under the direction of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center will be private. Memorial contributions may be made in Alice’s name to the Better Days Animal League, 12310 Mongol Hill Rd. Shippensburg, PA 17257. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and the Chambersburg Hospital for the excellent care given to Alice. A special thank you for the kindness and compassion shown by Dr. Wayne Hoover, Jr.
