Almeta L. (Mills) McClain, 86, of Chambersburg, PA went home to be with the Lord, Monday, August 9, 2021, in Providence Place Senior Living. Born March 1, 1935, in Waterfall, PA she was the daughter of the late Thearon S. Mills and Sylva O. (Black) Shaw.
She was a graduate of Hustontown High School. On April 17, 1954, Almeta married her husband of 67 years, the late Earl L. McClain, who passed away just two days after her on Wednesday, August 11, 2021. They made their home in New Grenada until they moved to Chambersburg in their later years where she became a member of King Street United Brethren Church. Almeta was very organized and kept an immaculate home. She was very talented in handicrafts such as sewing, crocheting and knitting, but excelled as a cook. She loved her family and blessed them with items she made and the delicious food she cooked. She spent many years cooking for the children of Forbes Road Elementary School. She also used her talents to serve God at New Grenada Church of God helping with youth groups, Vacation Bible School, holiday meals, and women’s groups. While a resident at Providence Place she learned to paint while in her eighties and enjoyed giving her paintings to family members.
Almeta is survived by two sons, Vance C. McClain and his wife Cindy of Waterfall, PA and Timothy G. McClain and wife Susan of Dauphin, PA; four grandchildren, Chase McClain and his wife Heather, Trevor McClain, Travis McClain and Tressa McClain; two great-grandchildren, Adele and Weston; three siblings, Helen Frey of St. Augustine, FL, Eldon Mills of Everett, PA and Charles “Bob” Mills and his wife Leota of Marion, PA; a step-sister, Sandy Miller of Bedford, PA; a special aunt, Leta Feight, and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband she is preceded in death by an infant daughter and two step-sisters, Gail Hanks and Maureen Browell.
Services will be held to honor both Almeta and Earl 11:00 A.M., Friday, August 20, 2021, in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202 with Pastor Ron Cook and Pastor Kenny Cornelius officiating. Interment will be held 1:30 P.M. Friday afternoon in the Center Cemetery, 3195 Doran Road, Waterfall, PA 16689.
The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service Friday morning in the funeral home.
