Alverta M. Foreback, Chambersburg, age 94 of Penn Hall Nursing Center, went home to be with the Lord Sunday morning November 27th 2011. Born May 7th 1917 in Napier Township, Bedford County, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Ella (Felix) Miller.
She graduated from the former New Paris HS in 1935 and attended Cambria Rowe Business School. During WWII she worked at Chicago Pneumatic Tool Company building airplane parts for the war effort. In 2007 she became a charter member of the Rosie the Riveter Society. She married Carl C Foreback on May 28th 1946. She retired from the Fannett-Metal School District in 1979 as a cafeteria worker and previously worked at the former Piney Mountain Home for the Aged.
Alverta volunteered at the Path Valley Senior Citizen Center and Meals on Wheels for many years. She was a member of the Park Avenue United Methodist Church where she was active in the Ruth Sewing Circle. She was also very active in school, church and scouting activities with her sons.
Alverta’s love of travel took her throughout the United States, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Central America. She also enjoyed square dancing with her husband Carl, gospel music, sewing, auctions and collecting antiques.
She was preceded in death by husband Carl, 4 sisters; Vera Potts, Virginia Winegardner, J. Bernadine Miller, Doris Snively and; a brother, Dorland Miller. Alverta is survived by four sons; Craig (wife Linda) of Madison, WI, Doug (wife Donna) of Chambersburg, PA, Frank (wife Connie) of Lakeland, FL, Terence (wife Ruth Brennesholtz) of Santa Fe, NM; 8 grandchildren and; 6 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will held on Saturday December 3, 2011 at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Pastor Suzanne Elliott and Chaplain Brenda Doyle will officiate. Interment will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 - 9 PM Friday and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.
