Amos E. “Bud” Henson, Jr., 69, of DeBary, FL and formerly of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2017, at Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford, FL. Born April 27, 1948, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Amos E. Henson, Sr. and Mary Jane Stoner Henson.
A US Army veteran, Bud served honorably in Vietnam where he was awarded the Bronze Star among other commendations. Early in his life he was employed at Grove Manufacturing for eleven years and later as a crane operator at the New Cumberland Navy Depot until his retirement in 2010 after 29 years of service. Bud was an avid bowler and bowled in numerous leagues. He also enjoyed doing yard work. He coached his children’s baseball and softball teams in Scotland and was a former member of the American Legion Post 46 in Chambersburg and the VFW Post 6168 in Shippensburg. Following his retirement, he and his wife Gladys moved to DeBary FL.
Bud is survived by his wife of 48 years, Gladys Hykes Henson, whom he married on March 8, 1969; two children, David Henson of Little Rock, AR, and Lori Funk and husband Edward Funk, Jr. of Chambersburg; three grandchildren, Amber Henson of Little Rock, AR, Brooke Regi of OH, and Ashton Funk of Chambersburg; and his sister, Connie Dunn and husband Terry of Las Vegas, NV.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, December 21, 2017, in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Deacon Joe Kramer will officiate. Interment will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens where graveside military honors will be provided by the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Wednesday and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
