Ann M. “Mike” Root, 79, passed away on Thursday January 8, 2015 at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born on June 7, 1935 in New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Helen Wilmont Meshanic. Mike spent her working years in the education field, teaching fifth grade in Plainfield, NJ and serving as a librarian in Westfield, NJ. She was an avid reader and N.Y. Mets fan, who never wanted to miss a game. Her interests included the Civil War, cross-stitching and quilting. Mike also loved lighthouses, making many trips to visit various lighthouses around the country. One of her favorite destinations was Barnegat Light, NJ.
Mike is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Robert L. Root, whom she married on December 27, 1959. She is also survived by three children, Robert and wife Joanne of Oldsmar, FL, Linda Benner of Chambersburg and Karen Luka and husband Douglas of Westfield, NJ; and 4 grandchildren, Devon, Serena, Declan and Audrey. Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Meshanic.
Services and interment will be at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
