Anna “Josephine” Eckenrode, 93, a resident of Shippensburg Health Care Center and formerly of Amberson, PA, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Shippensburg Health Care Center. Born on April 20, 1921 in Spring Run, PA, she was the daughter of the late William and Anna Creigh Gury. Josephine spent her working years as a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 37 years. She was a very active member of Amberson United Methodist Church. She loved baking, bird watching, and the many dogs she spoiled over the years.
Josephine is survived by a daughter, Anna Mae West of Amberson, PA; 2 sons, Joseph J. “Jake” Eckenrode and wife Sharon of Bellefonte, PA and D. Linn Eckenrode and wife Rhonda of Amberson, PA; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and 1 step great grandchild. Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, J. Glenn Eckenrode on March 26, 1998; a brother Jay Gury; and a sister Frances Bock.
A memorial service to honor Josephine’s life will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 11:00AM at Amberson United Methodist Church, 18889 Amberson Road, Amberson, PA. Pastor Phil Foster and her grandson, Nathan West will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be private.
