Anna Smith

June 19, 1918 — August 20, 2011

Anna C. Atwood Smith, 93, of Fayetteville, PA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday August 20, 2011. Born June 19, 1918 in Manheim, PA, she was a daughter of the late Landis and Mary Whitaker Winger. She was a graduate of Manheim Central High School and attended Moody Bible Institute where she met her husband, Robert Atwood. In 1938, she and her husband went to Honduras to work with the Miskito Indians. Anna's indian name was Singing Heart and Bob was Chief Eagle Feather. They spent sixty four years serving the Lord in extensive missionary work including thirty years in Central America, after which time they spent many years in conference ministry in the United States and other countries. After Bob's death in October of 2001, Anna met and married John T. Smith who had been a pastor for forty years. John preceded her in death in 2009.

She is survived by two nephews, David Siddons of Lancaster and Philip Siddons of New York, and two nieces, Letty Haigh of Ohio and Susan Kirchner of Elizabethtown. The last of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Siddons and Louise Achey.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, August 26, 2011 at the Pond Bank Independent Church, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Mervil Stambaugh will officiate. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
