Arlene Brookens Gelwicks

Arlene Delores Brookens Gelwicks, age 85, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away on Monday, August 4, 2014 at Holy Spirit Hospital. Born October 6, 1928 in Greene Township, PA, she was the daughter of the late George M. and Mary Mae Shields Brookens.
Mrs. Gelwicks worked for the Stanley Company in Chambersburg for 15 years and later for Pet Ritz in Chambersburg, where she retired in 1994. She enjoyed reading, gardening, watching TV, Playing Bingo, and spending time with her family.
Surviving are five children, Galen “Punch” Ulrich (wife Carol) of Hagerstown, MD, Bonnie Heinbaugh (Leonard, Sr.) of Chambersburg, PA, Lucinda “Cindy” Garland (David) of Chambersburg, PA, Donna Rhone (Luther “Jake”) of South Mountain, PA, and Harold Bateman of Chambersburg, PA; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband Thurman Gelwicks in 1983, a son Lynn B. Ulrich on May 5, 2014, and two brothers, Sterling and Merle Brookens.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 8, 2014 at 1 PM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA; where Pastor Murray Stevens will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
