Arlene “Ike” Key Arnsparger Hepfer
The Heavens are rejoicing as Arlene “Ike” Arnsparger Hepfer returns to the loving arms of her Savior Jesus Christ. Ike left her earthly home on Sunday, October 6, 2013 after a short battle with lung cancer. She was a two-time survivor of breast cancer.
Ike was the only child of Paul Warren Arnsparger and Lula Florence Funk Arnsparger and was born on April 14, 1927. She was a 1945 graduate of the Chambersburg High School and worked most of her life. As a child she would deliver homemade pies to construction workers and road crews. She spent her adult years at The Interwoven and later worked and retired from J. Schoeneman Company (Stanley) in 1989 after 34 years. She returned to the work force 6 months later as the “TV Lady” at the Chambersburg Hospital and held that position for 14 more years at which time, she again retired and volunteered at the Chambersburg Hospital until her health declined.
Ike loved people and was her happiest when surrounded by them. She was fun loving, compassionate, and caring. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was a woman of great strength and stamina, which she credited to her God in Heaven. She credited her grandmother Annie Funk for her great and sustaining faith in God. She derived great pleasure in feeding birds, chipmunks, and squirrels in her neighborhood. She loved dogs and cats and rescued many during her lifetime. She had a compassionate heart for children and the elderly. She had a gift for writing poetry having published a booklet of her poems entitled “Some Thoughts in Verse”.
In addition to her parents, Ike was preceded in death by her stillborn son, Paul Warren Hepfer. Her daughter, Roberta Arlene Hepfer Stewart and husband Michael survive her. She is also survived by Denny Travers, “the son she never had” who was faithful as any son could be, as well as many nieces and nephews, beloved friends, and of course her furry, four-legged grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Ike would love if you would make a donation to Lutheran Social Services/Hospice, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17202 or the Menno Haven Benevolent Fund, 2011 Scotland Avenue, Chambersburg, PA 17201 as they provided her with such loving and compassionate care and comfort. We wish to thank friends and relatives for their love, visitations, prayers, and support.
