Arlene M. Washinger Wilcox, 89, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, passed away at Harmony at Hershey on April 7th, 2025. She was born March 18, 1936 in Chambersburg, the youngest of 5 children of the late John H. Washinger and Rhoda N. Cormany Washinger. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Doris A. Byers, John R. Washinger, Marian E. Bolan, and Dr. Kenneth C. Washinger. Arlene was the last of a good, small town, American family, all of whom succeeded well in life.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Lloyd Wilcox. They were blessed to have raised three children, Debra Rosinski (Joe), Diane Bohenick (Jim) and Gregory Wilcox (Robin). Arlene was an exceptionally loving and caring mother and the primary reason for Deb, Diane & Greg growing into good, well-educated, productive people, who in turn married really good people. Arlene was very proud of her grandchildren, Aaron, Aubrey, Joe and Jamie Bohenick.
Arlene was born and raised in Chambersburg (North Nelson & 6th Street). She remembers walking to King Street Elementary, walking to the old high school, was Color Day Queen, class of 1954, remembers walking downtown to work part-time at Tobey's, walking on Sunday morning with her mother to 1st Lutheran. She then became the ultimate homemaker, primarily responsible for providing a good, loving and always immaculate home for her family, while at the same time playing a strong supporting role in her husband's career in Cincinnati, Chicago and Fort Worth.
Always kind and gracious, Arlene easily made friends everywhere she lived, but was most happy with the relationship she maintained with her special friends from high school (Annetta, Kay, Ginny, Polly, Joanie, and Gretchen) over a period of 65 plus years, especially the good memories from yearly trips together to Seattle, San Francisco, LA, Santa Fe, Minneapolis and NYC. Arlene was a member of the Chambersburg Country Club, enjoyed golf for all the right reasons (sunshine, beauty, and good friends) and thru golf, became close friends with Pat Saber, who she considered a particularly good and dear friend.
Arlene Washinger Wilcox; Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Friend...she was exceptional!
