Arnae Roberts was born on Monday, December 31st, 1945 to Julian “Buster” and Rebecca McMiller. She was their third child. On Saturday, January 20th, 2024, God in his infinite wisdom saw the road was getting tough and decided to call His daughter to her new home in the heavens.
Arnae was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System and graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in 1964. She then attended Job Corp where she obtained a degree as a CNA/LPN and acquired nursing skills that she would use in her medical career. She gained employment with Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital where she diligently worked for twenty-seven years. It was in this dutiful assignment that Arnae trained inexperience healthcare professionals, helping to acclimate them to the medical system. During her lengthy career, she cared for the sickest of children experiencing complex health problems. Thousands of families were blessed by her loving care and her soft spot for children during that time.
Arnae had a strong faith in God and accepted Him as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She attended Mt. Ararat Baptist Church with her family for many years, and when she moved to Pennsylvania, attended Brownsville Church of God. She loved to hear the choir sing songs of Zion. Some of her favorite gospel songs were “Lord Do It For Me” by Zacardi Cortez, “Order My Steps” by the GMWA Women of Worship, and Walter Hawkins’s “Goin’ Up Yonder”. Arnae was a dedicated member of several organizations, such as the United Order of Tents Southern district # 1, the Red Hatters in Baltimore, and the Upper Adams Senior Center in Pennsylvania. As a longstanding member of the United Order of Tents, she mentored dozens of young girls in the Baltimore area, encouraging them to reach the highest heights and trust in the Lord. She played a vital part in fundraising, sponsoring trips and lucrative events for many years in the organization.
Arnae loved to travel and would fill her calendar with exciting excursions like dinner theatre and shopping trips. She was a pro at finding the best deals. She could calculate percentage savings in her head with sharp accuracy. She also loved crocheting and knitting hats and scarves for family and friends.
She leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, Tynette; two sons, Joseph and Daniel; fifteen of her grandchildren, Latrease, DéVonte, Chakkera, Darius, Destiny, Lauren, Troy, Janiah, Jasmine, Isaiah, Israel, Dashawn, Crystal, Kwesi, Cheikh-Khadim, and Ayden; eight great-grandchildren, Justin, Jayden, Bryan, Aris, Nevaeh, Mustafa, Fatima, and Lil-Maimouna; two of her sisters, Catherine and Peggy Ann; two brothers, Ron (Katy) and Kevin (Tracey); Goddaughter, Maimouna (Latasha); as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including three of her closest lifelong friends, Gloria Jerry, Carolyn Sheffield, and Peggy Waters.
She is reunited in heaven with her parents, Julian and Rebecca; one sister, Gloria; two grandsons, Zachariah and Shabro; and her special friend, Bruce Bivens.
Arrangements are by the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
