Austin Ray Gelwicks, age 17, of Spring Run, PA, passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Born in McConnellsburg, PA on March 5, 1999, Austin is the son of Daniel R. Gelwicks, Jr. and Heather M. Gipe Gelwicks.
Austin was a senior at Fannett-Metal High School, where he was a member of the Class of 2017, and had planned to attend Universal Technical Institute. Austin had a passion for racing; where he piloted the 69 G car for four years, winning rookie of the year in 2014. Austin enjoyed hunting, animals, working at the Milky Way, playing video games, watching the San Francisco 49er’s and spending time with his Girlfriend. He was a junior member at the Fannett-Metal Fire Company.
In addition to his parents, Austin is survived by his sister, Olivia Gelwicks, his maternal grandparents, Mike and Sarah Gipe of Spring Run, PA; his paternal grandparents, Marcia and Dale Rice and Dan and Connie Gelwicks, Sr.; four great-grandmothers, Goldie Hampton, Lyla Gipe, Annabell Reeder, and Janet Shoop; his aunt and uncle, Michelle and Scott Bedwell as well as several other aunts and uncles; his cousin, Tristan Bedwell; and his girlfriend, Amber Cornell. In addition to his sister Paige Gelwicks, Austin was preceded in death by his great - grandfathers, Sonny Gipe and Harry Hampton.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at 10 AM at Shady Pine Mennonite Church, 14620 Shady Pine Rd., Willow Hill, PA 17271, where Pastor Marlin A. “Butch” Neil and Pastor Ryan Henderson will officiate. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 26, 2016, from 6 – 9 PM and on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the service at Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Austin’s name to the Fannett – Metal Fire Department or to Metal Township Fire Department.
