Barbara Marie McAllen, 83, of Chambersburg, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2024, in the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Born on November 26, 1940, in Spring Run, PA, she was a daughter of the late John Franklin McAllen and Helen Marie Briggs McAllen.
Barb was a graduate of Fannett-Metal High School and the former Chambersburg Beauty School. A beautician and hair stylist for many years, she was the owner and operator of Barb Jacob’s Beauty Salon in Chambersburg. She then took a traveling sales position with Planned Furniture Promotions, which enabled her to travel the whole country. She was a gifted Scrabble player and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. She also had a special fondness for giraffes.
Barb is survived by her son, Jay Jacobs (Lori Golden) of Chambersburg; three grandsons, Jayson, Zachary and Trey Jacobs; and her great grandchildren, Luna and Atlas. She is also survived by her brother, Matthew “Sonny” (wife Charlotte) McAllen of Willow Hill and Denise McAllen of Shippensburg; as well as loving nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Allen McAllen and Luther Franklin McAllen; one sister, Eva Jane Maley; and most recently, her daughter, Kim Jacobs, who just passed away on January 31st of this year.
A memorial service to honor the lives of Barb and her daughter, Kim, will be held at 3 pm on Friday, February 23, in the chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home 333 Falling Spring Road Chambersburg, with the Rev. Dr. A. Robert Cook officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interments will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter 5051 Letterkenny Road West Chambersburg, PA 17201.
