Barbara Sherman

Barbara A. Sherman, age 72, of Chambersburg, and formerly of Maumee, OH, passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Providence Place of Chambersburg. Born on May 24, 1943 in Baltimore, MD, she was a daughter of the late Ralph R. Tappen and Mary Trumpi Tappen. She was the widow of Charles S. “Chuck” Sherman, who preceded her in death on May 31, 2002. Barb graduated from Maumee High School in Maumee, OH. She was the founder and past president of Country Folk Inc. in Chambersburg. Previously she had worked for the American Cancer Society and Private Industry Council. Years ago Barb volunteered with the Chambersburg Hospital Auxiliary and the American Cancer Society. She enjoyed gardening and she had a true passion for home decorating and remodeling. Surviving are her four children, Jeffrey W. Sherman (Cassy) of Athens, GA, Amy E. Sollars (Jeff) of Chambersburg, Paul T. Sherman (Pam) of Little Rock, AR, and Robin A. Cline (Dave) of Fayetteville; three brothers, Roger Tappen (Patti), Ted Tappen (Carol), all of Chambersburg, and Bruce Tappen (Gina) of Shippensburg; one sister, Julie Huff (Russ) of Mechanicsburg; and nine grandchildren, Aaron, Rachael, Jackson, Spencer, Austin, Miah, Mason, Chris and George. She will also be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews, and her foreign exchange student son, “A” Weerasak Kowsurat of Bangkok, Thailand. Aside from her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her nephew, Nathan Tappen. Barb was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Thursday, February 4, in Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Ave. Chambersbug, with the Very Rev. Luis R. Rodriguez V.F. officiating. Interment will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM on Wednesday in the Thomas L Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Road West, Chambersburg, PA 17201; or to the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance, 801 Roeder Rd, Suite 750, Silver Spring, MD 20910.
