Bernard E. Toporzycki, 72, of Mercersburg, PA passed away Thursday, November 18, 2021 in his home surrounded by his family. Born February 5, 1949 in Baltimore, MD he was the son of the late Frank Toporzycki and Louise Childers.
He served as a sergeant in the United States Army in Korea and Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He enlisted on June 22, 1966 in Baltimore, MD and he was honorably discharged on May 14, 1969. While in the Army Bernard served as a lineman, in communications, and as an expert marksman. He obtained a Vietnam Service Medal and a National Defense Service Medal.
Bernard was employed as a shipping clerk for General Motors, Martinsburg, WV. He retired in 2006 after 38 years with the company. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and playing games with his grandchildren. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Lemasters.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Theresa Ann (Cranford) Toporzycki; three children, Rebecca Hoffman of Huntingtown, MD, Joshua Toporzycki of Mercersburg, and Kaitlynn Schill of Chambersburg, PA; five grandchildren, Hunter Toporzycki, Dylan Hoffman, Drew Hoffman, Savannah Bishop and Danielle Toporzycki; two great-grandchildren Mason and Easton Schill; and his siblings, Barbara Thompson, Linda Burke, Francis Toporzycki, Charles Toporzycki, Marvin Childers, Verda Childers, Sandy Wilhide and Kathy Barkley.
Services will be held 10:00 AM, Monday, November 29, 2021 in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202 with Pastor Robert Mentzer officiating. The graveside service where military honors will be rendered will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, 60 Indiantown Gap, Annville, PA 17003.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM, Sunday afternoon as well as an hour prior to the service Monday morning in the funeral home
