Bertha May Umbrell, 80, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Thursday, October 26, 2017. Born May 3, 1937, in Chambersburg, PA, she was a daughter of the late Ray and Bertha Gsell Schuchman.
Mrs. Umbrell was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Chambersburg, where she attended since she was a young child. She spent time in the 1970’s volunteering in the Bible Release program. She was a school crossing guard and managed a pizza shop. She also worked for her son at the former Hancock TV. She was a caretaker for her parents and an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
She is survived by her children, Debra Kay Umbrell-Tressler (James) and Brian Lee Umbrell, of Chambersburg; sister Martha Umbrell; brothers Albert Schuchman and William Schuchman (Ollie), and sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Schuchman and Dort Schuchman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Percy B. Umbrell, on April 18, 1969, whom she married in 1954; and brothers George, Robert, Charles, and Clarence Schuchman, and brother-in-law, Jonathan Umbrell.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Tuesday, October 31, 2017, in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Jane Nicholson will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Norland Cemetery.
