Bessie Jane Thompson

Bessie Jane Thompson, 95, of Willow Hill, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 in the Aprontree Personal Care Home, Spring Run. Born on January 25, 1916 in Willow Hill, she was a daughter of the late Georg E. Steck and Carrie Bock Steck. She was the widow of Wallace N. Thompson, who preceded her in death on December 25, 1978.

A homemaker, Bessie enjoyed cooking, gardening and mowing her grass. She also drove a bus for her family’s bus company. Her hobbies included embroidery, needlepoint, and collecting dishes, ornamental frogs, and salt and pepper shakers. She was a member of the Upper Path Valley Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are three daughters, Dorcas M. (Mrs. Larry) Adams of Dillsburg, PA, Gloria A. (Mrs. James) Morris of Washington, and April S. (Mrs. Vincent) Montague of Chambersburg; seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and two step great grandchildren. The last of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Book, and three brothers, George “Tiny” Steck, Woodrow “Ben” Steck and Stanley “Byrd” Steck.

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM on Monday, August 1, 2011 in the Upper Path Valley Presbyterian Church, 16950 Main Street Spring Run, with Rev. Dr. Meagan Boozer officiating. Interment will follow in Upper Path Valley Cemetery. There will be no viewing; however the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Upper Path Valley Presbyterian Church, PO Box 128 Spring Run, PA 17262.
