Betty Ailes

Betty J. (Picking) Ailes, 91, of Fayetteville, PA, formerly of Chambersburg and Johnstown, passed away on Thursday morning , December 17, 2015 at The Village of Laurel Run. Born March 23, 1924 in Johnstown, PA, she was a daughter of the late Fred C. and Elizabeth Picking Kent. She was the devoted and loving wife of 71 years to the late Bingham J. Ailes, whom she married on November 21, 1942. She loved to cook and bake and her Christmas cookies and gobs were a treat enjoyed by her family and many others. She worked in cosmetics at the Penn Traffic Department Store in Johnstown until her retirement and was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chambersburg and a former member of Moxham Lutheran Church in Johnstown.

She is survived by two sons, Fred B. Ailes and wife Emma of Fayetteville and David P. Ailes and wife Dorothy of Cheyenne, WY; two daughters Mary Anne Lamb of Ledyard, CT and Elizabeth Mooney and husband Richard of Groton, CT; ten grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 in the chapel of Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. Jane Nicholson will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Grandview Cemetery in Johnstown, PA with Rev. Wilbert Boerstler officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army of Chambersburg, 159 Lincoln Way West, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
