Betty Amsley

Betty Ramsey Amsley, age 93, of Chambersburg, PA passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at Brookview Healthcare Center. Born November 28, 1930, in Maddensville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Pearl Wible Ramsey.

Betty married the late Charles W. Amsley on December 13, 1952, and for 59 years of marriage, was the most devoted and loving wife. Betty, also known as “Nanny” to her family, was the most kind and caring person. She loved meeting people. No one can recall Betty ever speaking a harsh word. She was a graduate of Saltillo High School and had attended the former Chamersburg Business College. In her younger years, she worked at the Valley Bank and Trust Company and the Bon Ton Department Store (formerly Eyerlys). She formed many special friendships with her co-workers and always enjoyed talking with her customers. Betty will be remembered for the joy she found in the simple pleasures of gardening, canning, family gatherings, and Bible study. She was a member of The Greencastle Church of God and formerly a member of the Hustontown Church of God for many years where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School class. She also volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Teresa Amsley-Mentzer (husband Terry) of Chambersburg, PA, Brenda Amsley Mellott (husband Herm) of Hagerstown, MD, and Wanita Amsley Shoemaker (husband Randy) of Chambersburg, PA; five cherished grandchildren: Kimeka Jewell (Steve), Asohnn Anglin, Brittany Strait (Jess), Ben Mellott (Kelli), Chuck Mellott (Lindsay). Her legacy continues through her fourteen great-grandchildren: Brianna Anglin, Willow Amsley, Avery and Mason Jewell, Winter Starliper; Adair Mellott; Julia, Aliza, Kent, Claire, and Quinn Stough; Nolan, Luka, and Goldie Strait. Additionally, she is survived by her siblings, Stella McCleary, Thelma Mellott (Cecil), Darlene Ramsey, Judy Kagarise (Dave Helsel) and Melvin Ramsey (Revonda), and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Amsley, on January 30, 2011, her beloved first grandchild, Shalynn Stough (surviving husband, Bryan) on September 15, 2023, and sisters, Miriam Kelly, Margaret Reeder and brothers, Donald Ramsey and Reuben Ramsey.

Funeral services and interment will be private. If desired, memorial contributions may be made in her name to The Greencastle Church of God, 4480 Buchanan Trail W., Greencastle, PA 17225 or to the Menno Haven Benevolent Fund, 2011 Scotland Ave, Chambersburg, PA 17201. The family wishes to express their warm appreciation to all the Menno Haven Caregivers and Staff at Chamber Pointe and Brookview Healthcare Center.
