Betty J. Baker, 96, of Fayetteville, and formerly of Shippensburg, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2022 at her daughter’s home after a period of declining health. Her beloved husband Clarence B. “Hank” Baker preceded her in death on January 9, 2012.
Born March 6, 1926 in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Roy A. and Ruth Gearhart Gipe. Prior to retirement, Betty worked in food service at Shippensburg University. She loved Baltimore Orioles baseball, Baltimore Colts football and Green Bay Packer football. An avid bowler, Betty bowled in a bowling league until the age of 92. She really loved to travel. She and Hank enjoyed many trips over the years, from fishing and camping trips in Chincoteague, VA, to cruises, to trips to Florida, to Hawaii, to Bermuda.
She is survived by 5 children, Sandra Perry and husband Jere of Fayetteville, Patricia Robinson of Chambersburg, Clarence B. “Hank” Baker, Jr. of Orrstown, Helen Jett of Shippensburg, and John Baker and companion Teresa Ott of Chambersburg; one sister, Donna Shuman of Chambersburg; 10 grandchildren, Jere Perry, Jr and wife Tara of North Wilkesboro, NC, Elizabeth Darhower and husband Ron of Shippensburg, Christopher Robinson of Harrisburg, Christina Robinson Wilkes and husband Thomas of Phoenix, AZ, CJ Ezell, Amanda Rudisill and husband Jordan of Shippensburg, Jessica Rife and fiance’ Levi, Eric Jett of Phoenix, AZ Michael Jett and Laura of Castleberry, FL and Nicole Rine and husband Duncan of Chambersburg; 13 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Aside from her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Beatrice Nye, Margaret Jumper and Shirley Porter; 2 brothers Raymond L. and Richard E. Gipe; and a daughter in law, Kay Tourney Baker.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at 11:30 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. Rev. Murray Stevens will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00PM on Tuesday and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.
