Betty L. (Iverson) Furst, age 92 of Chambersburg, died Monday, March 29, 2021. Born in Altoona, PA on September 8, 1928 she was the daughter of the late Fred and Mildred (Engdahl) Iverson.
Betty graduated from Upsala College in 1950 where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She had been a school teacher and bank teller in Altoona. Betty lived in Harrisburg, PA, Norfolk, VA and Columbus, OH, and then moved to Chambersburg in 1968 when her husband retired from the Navy. She was an avid reader, loved to play duplicate bridge, and was a volunteer at the Coyle Free Library and an AARP tax aide for the elderly. A highlight of her life was a trip to Sweden in 1990 with her husband, sisters and their husbands to meet both her father’s and mother’s extended families. Betty was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church of Williamson.
Betty was predeceased by her husband, Russel in 2008, her sister Phyllis in 2013, and two nieces. She is survived by her son, David Furst and his wife, Barbara of Ellicott City, MD, and two grandchildren, Michael and Sara. She is also survived by a sister, Shirley Litzinger of Pensacola, FL, a niece and five nephews.
A private graveside service will be held in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg, PA. Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home.
