Betty Lee Gipe, 88, of 1585 Sollenberger Road, Chambersburg, PA died peacefully Friday, March 4, 2011 at home. Born November 11, 1922 in Carlisle, she was a daughter of the late Frederick R. Pittman and Mary Keadle Pittman. Her beloved husband, Wendell E. Gipe preceded her in death on December 18, 1993. Betty was a graduate of the Carlisle High School.
She is survived by four children, Joyce E. Osborne and husband Russell M. of Cleveland, TN, Donald E. Gipe of Chambersburg, Deborah E. Thomas of Abingdon, MD, and Dennis E. Gipe and wife Rose of Chambersburg; six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. She is also survived by a sister, Helen Stover of Carlisle, and also a number of cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Elmer Pittman.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at Agett-Geisel Funeral Home, 18875 Main Street, Dry Run, PA. Rev. Roy Fahnestock will officiate. Interment will follow in Upper Path Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
The family requests the omission of flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to Lutheran Home Care and Hospice, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
