Betty Louise (Martin) Haines, 84, of Chambersburg, passed away peacefully, Thursday, March 15, 2012 at home. Betty was born August 5, 1927 in Chambersburg to the late Charles F. and Edna M. McCanns Martin. Her first husband, Richard E. Gelwicks preceded her in death in January of 1992 and her second husband, George S. Haines, preceded her in death in June of 1997.

Early in life Betty worked at Letterkenny Army Depot and then at the Public Opinion. In her later years she enjoyed working for her daughter at Kim’s Cleaning. Betty was of the Christian Faith. She was a devoted mother of her ten children and enjoyed gospel music, roller skating at Red Bridge Rink, shopping, picnics, and cooking.

She is survived by her ten children, Judy Ann Gelwicks Wood Blair of Chambersburg, Sharon and husband Jerry Couch of Madison, GA, Randall Gelwicks of Chambersburg, Jeffrey L. Gelwicks and wife Debbie of Enola, Connie and husband Ralph Starr of Chambersburg, Rebecca and husband Terrill Mathis of Watkinsville, GA, Jody Mae of St. Thomas, Karen and husband Gregory Mickey of Shippensburg, Kimberly and husband Jerry Hann of Chambersburg, and Brian Haines and wife Danielle of Chambersburg. Also surviving is her only sister, Isabell, wife of the late Walter Thompson, and nephew William Thompson and wife Sharon, all of Chambersburg. She is also survived by nineteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and several cousins. In addition to her parents and husbands she was preceded in death by a daughter, Georgia Mae Haines and a granddaughter Jenny Gelwicks.

Services and interment will be private.
