Betty G. Hockensmith, 89, of Chambersburg, PA, entered into eternal rest with her family at her side, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease on Monday morning, November 10, 2014 at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born March 1, 1925 in Marion, PA, she was a daughter of the late Cyrus and Lela Miller Stoner. Mrs. Hockensmith had been employed at the former Stanley Company and Pet Ritz both in Chambersburg. Betty’s hobbies included ceramics, baking and traveling with her husband Charles. After retirement, she made an annual trip with her family to Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, TN. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Ebenezer United Brethren Church near Greencastle. Betty taught Sunday School for over 40 years.
She is survived by her husband, Charles C. Hockensmith, Jr. whom she married February 9, 1946; her son, Kirby Hockensmith and wife Glenda; two grandchildren, Matthew Hockensmith and Kelly Menicucci and husband Anthony, of Greencastle; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Pauline and Luella Weller; and two brothers, Kenneth and Glen Stoner.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Mt. Pleasant United Brethren Church, 2509 Black Gap Rd. Chambersburg with Rev. Gary Culler and Rev. Richard Mose officiating. Interment will follow at Brown’s Mill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg and one hour prior to the service at the church.
