Betty J. Schuchman, age 83, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2014 at the Menno Haven Nursing Center. Born February 16, 1931, in Chambersburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Otha and Cora Leedy McCleary.
Mrs. Schuchman was a member of the class of 1949 of the former Chambersburg High School. She retired as a Keypunch computer operator at Chambersburg Engineering; she later went on to work at the Bon-Ton at the Chambersburg Mall as a sales associate in the men’s department. A selfless person, Betty volunteered at the Chambersburg Hospital; she also enjoyed doing things for others, including cooking for them. Betty was a member of King Street church and NARFE.
Surviving is her daughter, Vicki Brindle (husband William) of Chambersburg, granddaughter, Jessica Santora (husband Joseph “Jaime”) of Chambersburg, great grandson, Asher Paul Santora of Chambersburg, and three siblings, Robert McCleary (wife Sally), Irene Lesher (husband Edmond), and Janet Peters, (husband Norman) all of Chambersburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul W. Schuchman, Jr. in 1988.
A Memorial service will be held to honor Betty’s life on Wednesday, December 31 at 11:30 AM at the Menno Haven Chapel, 2085 Scotland Rd., Chambersburg, PA, where Chaplain Adam Leeper and Rev. Lester F. Stine will officiate. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the King Street Church, 162 East King St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
