Betty Smith

Betty J. Atwell Smith, 89 of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Thursday morning, December 23, 2021 at Chambers Pointe Healthcare Center. Born September 4, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Dan and Nora Lee Sullivan Atwell. Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Baxter Seminary. She was a homemaker most of her life. In her younger years she enjoyed playing tennis and square dancing. She also enjoyed playing Bridge with her friends. Her husband, Glendale B. Smith, whom she married October 24, 1953, preceded her in death on November 8, 2013.

She is survived by her son, Douglas D. Smith and wife Elizabeth of Chesapeake, VA; two daughters, Linda D. Barnhart and husband Jeff of Hagerstown, MD, and Cynthia A. Ayars and husband Bradley of Lititz, PA; seven grandchildren, Jason Smith and wife Hillary, Kevin Smith, Abigail Barnhart, Tyler Barnhart and wife Lauren, William, Samuel, and Karen Ayars; and two great-grandsons, Landon and Britton. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her half-sister, Cece Howser.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, December 28, 2021 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, P. Interment will follow at Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from Noon until services begin at 1:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
