Betty Watkins

Betty J. Watkins, 80, formerly of Dry Run, PA, passed away Friday, June 30, 2017 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born October 6, 1936 in Saxton, she was a daughter of the late James and Esther Heffner. A homemaker most of her life, she enjoyed spending time outdoors; birds; gardening; puzzle books; and plastic canvas needlepoint. Her husband, Melvin P. “Mel” Watkins, whom she married in 1955, preceded her in death on January 29, 2016.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Deener (Chris Crandall); her son, Willis Watkins and wife Betty L Watkins, all of Spring Run; six grandchildren, Irvin Deener, III, John Deener, Sarah Deener, June Steffen, Nicole Harry, and Shelva Covert; and fifteen great-grandchildren, Whitney, Jacob, Dextin, Jasmine, Ailani, Keira, Jacorey, Cheyanne, Kristian, Kyana, Adriana, Avontre, Zayana, Ethan, and Madison. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a number of brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 5, 2017 in the Agett-Geisel Funeral Home, 18875 Main Street, Dry Run, PA. Mr. David Frederick will officiate. Interment will follow at Amberson Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 AM Wednesday at the funeral home.
