Billie A. Bard, age 87, of Chambersburg, PA, Passed away on Friday, August 21, 2015, at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born October 28, 1927, in Licking Creek, PA, he was the son of the late Harold and Rhoda Garland Bard.
A U. S. Navy veteran Mr. Bard served honorably from 1945 – 1948. He was employed as firefighter at Letterkenny Army Depot, retiring in 1968, after 20 years of service. He then went on to own and operate his own business, B&B Camper Sales and mobile home park, from 1964 – 1988 and in land development and home construction. He was a member of the Cornerstone Church of Christ, a life member of the VFW Post 1599, the Ft. Loudon American Legion, Post 606, AMVETS Post 224, the Moose Lodge, and Marine Corps League in Chambersburg, PA. He was also a member of the miniature carousel builders club. Mr. Bard enjoyed working with wood and making furniture, as well as traveling to Ft. Myers, FL to their vacation home.
Surviving is his wife of 64 years, Betty L. Amsley Bard, whom he married on July 10, 1951, three daughters, Ginger Edmondson (husband G.T.) of Chambersburg, PA, Deborah Bard Smith of Ft. Myer, FL, and P. Kim Ocker (husband Galen “Zeke”) of Chambersburg, PA, four grandchildren, Chad McClure, (wife Mary), Christopher Scott Smith (Tisha), Hollie Smith Schmid (husband Peter), and Joshua Ocker; and three great-grandchildren, Ashley Runyon, Josie Smith, and Addison Smith Schmid. He enjoyed his beloved dog, Penny. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, Harold, Boyd, and Wayne Bard and Heverline Dinsmore.
Funeral services will be held in his honor on Tuesday, August 25, 2015, at 11 AM at the Cornerstone Church of Christ, 1350 Tallow Hill Rd., Chambersburg, PA; where Pastor Jerry Timbrook will officiate. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 24, 2015 from 6 – 8 PM at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA and on Tuesday one hour prior to the service. Entombment will follow the service at Parklawns Memorial Gardens.
