Billie K. Gelsinger, 71, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Monday evening, June 12, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family. Born August 21, 1951 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Clyde and Arminda Ulsh Strait. Billie was a 1969 graduate of the James Buchanan High School. She was employed by the Chambersburg Area School District as a bus driver for 37 years, where her students referred to her as Mrs. “G”. She retired in 2011. Thirty years of her driving career were as a kindergarten bus driver, having driven three generations of some families to kindergarten. She was known for walking door to door every year to personally meet every kindergarten child prior to picking them up on the first day of school to make them more comfortable when she arrived. She also drove many teams to sporting events after school. She was a life member of Hume-McNeil-Byers AMVETS Post 224 where she was a Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed puzzles; was an avid sports fan; and had coached local Little League baseball.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald E. Gelsinger, whom she married June 30, 1972; daughter, Tammy Murphy and husband Rich, Jr. of Dillsburg; son, Keith Gelsinger and wife, Julie of Hanover; grandchildren, Corey Adams and wife, Andrea of Mechanicsburg, Zoe Gelsinger of Hanover, and Quentin Kriner of Chambersburg; three great-grandchildren, Hunter, Easton, and Arya; and her brother, Donald Strait of St. Thomas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Donna Elser and Audrey Strait.
A graveside service will be held at 10 AM on Friday, June 16, 2023, at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. Rev. Ronald Cook will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, June 15, 2023 and on Friday, June 16, 2023, from 8:30-9:30 AM at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA.
