Bingham J. Ailes, 92, of Fayetteville, PA and formerly of Chambersburg died Friday evening, July 5, 2013 at The Village of Laurel Run. Born April 17, 1921 in Johnstown, PA, he was a son of the late Elwood and Katherine Bingham Ailes. Mr. Ailes served during WWII as a US Army medic landing on Omaha Beach. He retired from Bethlehem Steel Co., where he had worked as a Millwright. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chambersburg.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Betty J. Picking Ailes, whom he married November 21, 1942; two sons, Fred B. Ailes and wife Emma of Fayetteville and David P. Ailes and wife Dorothy of Cheyenne, WY; two daughters, Mary Anne Lamb and husband Robert of Ledyard, CT and Elizabeth Mooney and husband Richard of East Hampton, CT; ten grandchildren, Stephanie Dimisa, Debi Robinson, Michael and Jonathan Ailes, Joe and David Bewak, Sara Falvieno, Maribeth Reilly, Melissia Holland, and Michael Lamb; and sixteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Gloria Guisto of Charleston, SC; and a brother, Henry Ailes of Kent, OH. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Elwood Ailes, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Tuesday, July 9, 2013 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA with Rev. Steven Dorsett officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Military honors will be provided by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard immediately following the service. Interment will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Grandview Cemetery, 801 Millcreek Road, Johnstown, PA.
