Blanche May Over Shoemaker, age 93, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Friday, May 26, 2017, at Manor Care in Chambersburg. Born in Williamson, PA on September 14, 1923, she was the daughter of the late James H. and Beulah Culler Over.
Mrs. Shoemaker was a 1942 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School. She worked in the banking industry for 32 years, starting at F&M Trust and retiring as a Bank branch manager of Valley Bank. During this time she worked nights and weekends as a restaurant prep cook. Following retirement, she became the co-owner of Vivian’s Restaurant on Lincoln Way East in Fayetteville for a short time to pursue her cooking interests. When she wasn’t in a kitchen creating delicious, homestyle meals and desserts, she enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, painting, gardening, crocheting, and playing bingo. Mrs. Shoemaker was a member of the VFW Post 1599 Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving is her daughter, Doris Mickey McVay (husband John McVay) of Clearwater, FL; four grandchildren, Lenore Hockley Horton (husband Jeff Horton) of Lithia, FL, Glenda Hockley Hauser of Kathmandu, Nepal, Stephanie McVay Roos (husband R.J. Roos) of Lithia, FL, John McVay II (wife Kimberly Columbus McVay) of Tarpon Springs, FL; six great-grandchildren (Tanner Shields, Dylan Horton, Jonah McVay, Delaney Horton, Christa McVay, and Devin Horton); and two great-great grandchildren (Emma and Luke Shields) and sister Grace Rowe. In addition to her parents and brothers, Nelson M., Ray L. and Wayne L. Over; she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert W. Shoemaker.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 5, 2017, at 10 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Lincoln Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Beauty for Ashes, International (a non-profit organization that that helps support and employ marginalized women of Nepal) at 19029 US Hwy 19N, Apt. 5-9, Clearwater, FL 33764.
