Bobbie Howell

Bobbie Howell, Sr., age 76, of Chambersburg, went home to be with the Lord Sunday afternoon, September 2, 2012 at the VA Medical Center, Martinsburg, WV after a lengthy illness. Born June 3, 1936 in St. Matthews, SC, he was the youngest son of the late Sam and Mary Duckson Howell. Bobbie attended the public school systems of Calhoun County. In 1952, he relocated to Far Rockaway, Queens, NY, and went on to serve in the US Army from 1953 until he was honorably discharged in 1956. Bobbie then met and later married his sweetheart June Courtney on March 19, 1959. He maintained a career in the US Army Reserve and supported his family for the next forty years as a skilled mechanic and maintenance supervisor with Amtrak, retiring in 1993. Following his retirement he continued his education in computer science at York University, Jamaica, NY. In 2003 the Howells relocated to Chambersburg where he joined and became an active member of Unity In Christ Church.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife June; sons, Bobbie Howell, Jr. and wife, Sheila Howell of Bronx, NY and Kevin Howell of Chambersburg; his daughter, Shalik Howell of Chambersburg; four grandchildren, Tyler, Jahneek, Justin, and Jahvonni; his son-in-law, Chester Fant, Jr.; a brother, Clay Howell of Mt. Holly, NJ; two brothers-in-laws, Gregory Patterson and Stanley Courtney; four sisters-in-laws, Regina Patterson, Mary Howell, Gloria Courtney, and Marilyn Courtney; one Goddaughter, Ruby Wilkerson; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. In addition to his parents, Bobbie was preceded in death by two brothers, Willie and Benny Howell.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, September 11, 2012 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Pastor Robert Shivers will officiate. The family will receive friends from 9-10:00 AM Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will be at 12:30 PM Tuesday at Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
