C. Daniel Baughman, 92, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Wednesday morning, December 14, 2016 at his home with his family by his side. Born August 12, 1924 in Scotland, PA, he was a son of the late John J. and Nellie G. Paxton Baughman. Dan served with the US Merchant Marines during WWII. He was a Vice President and one of the owners of the former McDowell Insurance for many years and since 1982 has served as CEO of Hartzok Insurance in Chambersburg. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, George Washington Lodge #143 F&AM, the Shippensburg Scottish Rite Club, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Valley Forest #145 in Shippensburg, and the Zembo Temple of the Shrine in Harrisburg, as well as the Jesters. He was a lifetime member of both the Million Dollar Roundtable for Life Insurance and the New England Life Leaders Association and Hall of Fame. Dan was Past President of the Franklin County Life Underwriters and the Chambersburg Country Club. He was a Past President of the Franklin County Shrine Club and currently serving as Ambassador of the state Shrine Club in Harrisburg. He always enjoyed participating with the Shrine Club in various parades. His hobbies included golfing, hunting, traveling, reading, fishing, and meeting with his friends for coffee at Hardee’s. He loved talking with people and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. For many years he volunteered his time to transport people to the Shriner’s Hospital in Philadelphia for treatment.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Martin Baughman, whom he married August 16, 1947; his son, Daniel S. Baughman and wife Cindy of Little River, SC; his daughter, Deborah B. Hartman and husband Ronnie of Chambersburg; and two grandchildren, Brett Baughman of Waynesboro and Mindy Hartman of Chambersburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandsons, Cody Baughman in 1996 and Aaron (A.J.) Hartman in 2001; as well as two brothers, D. Merle and George H. Baughman.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, December 20, 2016 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Dr. Neal O. Hively will officiate. Entombment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens where military honors will be conducted by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Monday and from 9:00-10:00 AM Tuesday at the funeral home. Members of George Washington Lodge #143 F &AM will conduct a Masonic service at 7:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.
