Candace Roxanne “Candy” Gottfried, 63, of Chambersburg, passed away on Thursday morning, July 9, 2015 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD. Born March 8, 1952 in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of Mary Engle and the late Charles Burgner.
A 1970 graduate of CASHS, Candy worked as a Supervisor for the PA Department of Agriculture for 26 years until her retirement in 2009. She was a member of Mt. Olivet United Brethren Church. Candy enjoyed gardening, painting, crafts, and going to Jimmy Buffett concerts. She also had a great love for animals.
In addition to her mother, Candy is survived by her husband of 44 years, Michael D. Gottfried, whom she married on March 13, 1971; two children, Stephanie Pfund (husband Duane) of Annapolis, MD, and Travis Gottfried of Chambersburg; two grandsons, Jack and Jordan Pfund of Annapolis, MD; her sister, April Goss of Chambersburg; her step-brother, Lonnie Engle (wife Lorraine); and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her father, Candy is preceded in death by her step father, Leon Engle.
A memorial service to honor Candy’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, July 13, 2015 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Marc Stephenson will officiate. Inurnment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Monday.
