Carol Tschop

Carol A. Tschop, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on May 2, 2014, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Born September 19, 1950, she was raised in Red Lion, PA. She graduated from Wyomissing High School in 1968, and then went on to attend Wilson College in Chambersburg, where she graduated with a BA in Fine Arts in 1972. She then adopted Chambersburg as her home. Carol was a key advocate in the "Save Wilson" movement in the late 1970's, and when the college stabilized, she became their Director of Development, and later served as Vice-President of Development.
Carol's focus in life shifted to advocating for quality of care and quality of life for the elderly. In 1998, she established the AGE Institute, a non-profit senior living management company. Carol was very influential in the culture change movement designed to insure her ideals were met in the daily operations of nursing homes throughout the country. Carol also founded and was past-President of the Institute for Caregiver Education, a not-for-profit organization that provides continuing education and professional development opportunities for healthcare professionals. In addition, Carol was also the Founder and President of the Pennsylvania Culture Change Coalition.
Carol was very active in, and was a long-time member of, Chambersburg Community Theatre. She was a founding board member of the Cumberland Valley School of Music. She was an accomplished pianist and songwriter. Carol attended the Upper Path Valley Presbyterian Church in Spring Run, PA.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert P. Tschop. She is survived by her mother, Nalda K. Tschop of Wernersville, PA., her brothers; John R. of Gettysburg, PA., and William P. of Wyomissing, PA., her beloved nieces and nephew; Suzanne Tschop of Atlanta GA., Laura Hobbins of Phoenixville, PA., and Tom Tschop of Philadelphia, PA. Carol will be sadly missed by all those whose lives she touched.
A Celebration of Life will be held in The Chapel, Thompson Hall, Wilson College, 1015 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, PA, on Friday, May 9 at 1:00 p.m. officiated by the Rev. Dr. Meagan M. Boozer. The Chapel will open at 12:00 noon for attendees to comingle and reminisce. Due to limited parking at Wilson, attendees may park at the Main Street Deli, 33 N. Main Street in downtown Chambersburg and be shuttled to the College between 11:45 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. Following the Celebration of Life, the shuttle will return guests to Main Street Deli for a reception in Carol’s honor. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
