Carol Jane Wenerd was born on February 17, 1932, in Wayne, PA. She was the daughter of Arthur and Leona (Hudson) Comins. She was an only child, but enjoyed family contact with 12 aunts and uncles on her father’s side and a favorite uncle, Frank, brother of her mother. Naturally, there were dozens of cousins. Her favorite was Susan (Slaymaker) Boyer.
Carol graduated from Radnor HS in 1950. She was interested in music, fashion design, ballet dancing, and modeling. She met her husband, Fred, at an Episcopal youth retreat at the Valley Forge Chapel. They married in 1952 in Wayne, PA and moved into an apartment in the Wissahickon section of Philadelphia before settling into a new home in Andorra. There, Carol and Fred raised two boys, Fred and David. They enjoyed living among vibrant neighborhood friends. She was an avid knitter and sewed clothes for herself, family, and friends. This was a skill she cherished until late in life as her eyesight waned. When Freddy was 19 and David was 16, Carol and Fred had twins, William and Robert. When others said double trouble, Carol referred to them as a double blessing
She was active in the life of her church, St. Mary’s at The Cathedral in Andorra. Her sewing skills were utilized in her work on the alter guild. She was a library aide at Shawmont Elementary School, an attendant at the Roxborough YMCA, and an elected poll worker in the neighborhood.
When her beloved husband passed away, she and Bill moved to Franklin County to join Robert and David. All four lived within a mile of each other. She and Bill were members of Trinity Episcopal Church. She continued to sew, knit, needlepoint, garden, and enjoy her pets in her new home.
Carol has five grandchildren, Brandon Wenerd, Jared Wenerd, Jenelle Wenerd, Allen Jacobson, and Laura Wenerd. She has three great-grandchildren, Marley, Hallie, and Baker Donnelly.
