Carrie E. Hughes, 86, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Sunday morning, November 10, 2013 at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where she resided since Friday afternoon. Born July 16, 1927 in Shippensburg, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Catherine Williams Fisher. She retired from Letterkenny Army Depot. Mrs. Hughes was an active member of Scotland United Methodist Church where she sang with the choir for many years and served on numerous committees. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and served on its District and Conference committees for eight years. She was a member of the Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Auxiliary, the Quincy United Methodist Home Auxiliary, the Neighborhood Center Auxiliary in Harrisburg, and had volunteered with Meals on Wheels in Chambersburg. Her hobbies included reading, traveling, word search puzzles, collecting owls, and spending time with her family. Her husband, Theodore E. Hughes, whom she married May 6, 1945, preceded her in death on October 6, 2002.

She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Washabaugh and husband John of Fayetteville; her son Theodore Hughes and significant other Lee Papalia of Martinsburg, WV; five grandchildren, John Washabaugh, Ted Hughes, III, Todd Washabaugh, Stacy McAfee, and Brittany Hughes; and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Sylvia Brown and husband Ralph of Hustontown, PA and Janet Voegel and husband William of Chambersburg; her brother, Robert Fisher and wife Vicky of Salisbury, NC; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Myerly; and two brothers, Charles and George Fisher.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Scotland United Methodist Church, 4040 Main Street, Scotland, PA with Pastor Bruce Gowe and Pastor Thomas Willis officiating. Interment will follow at Salem Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 PM Tuesday at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA, and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.
