Carroll Shaffer

Carroll Gene Shaffer, age 65, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2015, in the Martinsburg VA Hospital on Sunday, July 19, 2015. Born in Gettysburg, PA on March 7, 1950, he was the son of the late Leonard Franklin and Virginia Bowers Shaffer.
A 1968 graduate of Taneytown Junior/Senior High School, Mr. Shaffer went on to serve his country honorably during the Vietnam conflict in the U.S. Army. Mr. Shaffer retired as a supervisor of ALCOA after 32 years of service. He was a life member of the VFW Post 6918, in Harney, MD and the American Legion Post 0120, Taneytown, MD. He was also a member of the AMVETS Post 0172, Fairfield, PA. Mr. Shaffer enjoyed working in the yard and gardening.
Surviving is his wife of seven years, Ellen Bowers Shaffer, whom he married on April 10, 2008, a son Shane D. Shaffer (wife Stephanie) of Glenelg, MD, step-son, Jeffrey W. Sowers (wife Lisa) of Keymar, MD, three grandchildren, Olivia Shaffer and Ashley and Bryan Sowers, and two siblings, Robert F. Shaffer (wife Vicky) of Hampstead, MD and Darlene L. Slaybaugh of Beltsville, MD. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Freeland L. Shaffer.
A Memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2015 at 1 PM at the VFW Post 6918, Pavilion, 5801 Conover Rd., Taneytown, MD 21787. Interment will be private. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
