Catherine Newcomer

August 4, 1921 — February 27, 2011

Catherine M. Newcomer, 89, formerly of Wisteria Drive, Chambersburg, PA, died Sunday, February 27, 2011 in Holly Hill, FL. Born August 4, 1921 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Harry Ralph and Lottie Martin. Catherine moved to Florida in 2004 and prior to that she and her late husband were winter resident in Florida. She was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ and its Women's Group, the Chambersburg Quilt Guild, and was volunteer in the gift shop at Chambersburg Hospital. She also held membership in NARFE, Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and BPO Elks Lodge. She loved quilting.

Survivors include her eight children, David L. (Dorothy) Jones of Fayetteville, PA, Ronald L. Jones of Dagsboro, Delaware, Dennis M. (Cindy) Jones of Tallahassee, FL, Carolyn (Leo) Heavner of Frederick, MD, Bennett (Natalie) Newcomer of Waynesboro, PA, Thomas Newcomer of Chambersburg, PA, Ronald (Becky) Newcomer of Fayetteville, PA, and Donna Ford of Waynesboro, PA; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry B. Newcomer.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, March 4, 2011 at St. John's United Church of Christ, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Mark Ruzicka will officiate. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Women's Ministry Quilting Group c/o St. John's United Church of Christ, 1811 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg, PA 17202 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
