Charles W. Bowman, 83, of Chambersburg, passed away on Monday evening November 9, 2015 at his home. Born September 6, 1932 in Letterkenny Township, he was a son of the late Joseph and Rachel Holden Bowman. Early in his life, Mr. Bowman was employed by the former Keystone Grate and Blower as a sheet metal mechanic. He then worked for 37 ½ years at Letterkenny Army Depot, retiring in 1988 as a General Foreman of Allied Trades. He also worked part-time for many years at Marvin’s Gulf Station and upon its closing he continued part-time employment with Oakland Rock Gardens. He was a member of King Street United Brethren Church. A do-it-yourselfer, he enjoyed carpentry and building. His beloved wife, Gertrude E. Myers Bowman, whom he married October 6, 1951, preceded him in death on November 27, 2009.
He is survived by five children David C. Bowman and wife Audrey of St. Thomas; Douglas M. Bowman and wife Shirley of Harrisonville, Devona A. Peck and husband Douglas of Chambersburg, Daniel W. Bowman and wife Sandra of Chambersburg, and Darryl J. Bowman and wife Kathy also of Chambersburg; 10 grandchildren, Bradley Bowman, Barry Bowman, Jennifer Bowman, Jason Bowman, Zachary Peck, Emily Bancroft (Robert), Justin Bowman (DaKarra Thompson), Joshua Bowman, Tyler Bowman, and Brandon Bowman; 4 step-grandchildren, Katrina Sheeder (Seth), Christopher Clark (Jamie), Fallon Smith (Eric), and Adam Newcomer; 6 great-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great granddaughter; and two siblings, Kenneth Bowman (Joann) and Janet Ramsey (Walter, Jr.), both of Chambersburg. In addition to his parents and wife, Charles is preceded in death by eight siblings.
A funeral service to honor Charles’ life will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, November 13, 2015 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Glenn Peck will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
