Charles “Chuck” Butler, 92, of Chambersburg, passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2018, at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born January 15, 1926, in Chicago, IL, he was a son of the late Roland Glen and Theda Propst Butler.
A US Army veteran, Chuck served honorably during World War II; he then earned an associate’s degree from Purdue University. Chuck worked at Grove Manufacturing for four years, then was employed at JLG in McConnellsburg as a Special Projects Manager until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Chambersburg. Chuck and his wife Jane founded The Towne Singers and served with them for 40 years. He was a longtime member of the Chambersburg YMCA and was in the 3000 Mile Swim Club. He also enjoyed skydiving earlier in his life.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Jane Kay Rogers Butler, whom he married on November 14, 1948; two daughters, Rebecca Dobos of Littlestown, PA and Christy Hoover (Linn) of Webster, NY; four grandchildren, Kevin Hoover (Kayla), Brian Hoover, David Hoover (Kyle) and Megan Dobos; and two great grandchildren, Dakota and Eidan. In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his son Blair Butler and his brother, Roland Glen Butler, Jr.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 16, 2018, at Calvary United Methodist Church, 150 Norlo Drive, Fayetteville, PA 17222. Rev. Suzanne Elliott will officiate. Interment will follow in Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church at the above address. Services are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, PA
