Charles Placido Cruz, age 94, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Mr. Cruz was born May 3, 1921 in Honolulu, HI.
Mr. Cruz worked for the U.S. Government at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard for over 35 years, retiring in 1976. He would eventually move from Hawaii to Maryland and finally permanently retiring in Fayetteville, PA.
Surviving is his wife, Daisy Harding Cruz; five children from his first marriage, JoAnna Puanani DeFreitas (husband Wendell); Virginia Puaokalani Hostetler, Charles P. Cruz (wife Laurie), Jona P. Cruz (wife Rose), and Jonathan P. Cruz; ten grandchildren; and twenty-two great grandchildren. Mr. Cruz was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Poepoe Cruz, a son-in-law, Pete Hostetler, and two siblings, William Johnson and Virginia Johnson.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2016, at 11 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA; where Rev. Suzanne Elliott will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be held at 9:30 AM on Monday, February 29, 2016 in Mililani Memorial Park, Waipahu, HI. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Chambersburg Hospital for their care and support. A special thanks to Susan and Bobbi Jo, who assisted Daisy during the snow storm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary United Methodist Church, 150 Norlo Dr., Fayetteville, PA 17222 or to a charity of one’s choice.
