Charles R. Fisher, 87, of Chambersburg, PA, died Sunday evening, July 6, 2014 at Chambersburg Hospital. Born December 22, 1926 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Charles J. and Ida Ross Fisher. Charles served with the US Navy during WWII in the South Pacific and retired from Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg. He started his own insurance agency with Erie Insurance Group in 1967, later selling the business to his son, Jeffrey L. Fisher. He was a member of Scotland United Methodist Church since 1948 and also held membership in George Washington Lodge #143 F&AM, Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, the Marine Corps League, and Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion, all in Chambersburg. His beloved wife, Irene Cooper Fisher, whom he married September 9, 1950, preceded him in death on September 18, 2002.
He is survived by two sons, Steven R. Fisher and wife Cindy of Topsail, NC, and Jeffrey L. Fisher and wife Sandy of Scotland; two grandchildren, Lucretia and Whitney; and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers, Jack, Joseph, and Jay Fisher, all of Chambersburg. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers, George, James, Raymond, and Carl Fisher; and a sister, Ruth Stewart.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Scotland United Methodist Church, 4040 Main Street, Scotland, PA, with Rev. Bruce Gowe and Rev. Ron Cook officiating. Interment will follow at Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 9, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
